The ACO pays tribute to Charlie Whiting

The Automobile Club de l’Ouest is shocked and saddened at the death of a figure of motorsport, Charlie Whiting. Throughout his 40-year career he played key roles in motorsport, most recently as Formula One race director and FIA director and safety delegate.

Pierre Fillon, president of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest : “The death of Charlie Whiting fills us with sorrow. He accomplished so much for Formula One and was a solid ally for endurance racing, involved in its progress and in defending the interests of the Le Mans circuits. His number one priority was safety for all – drivers, marshals and spectators – and his passion for the sport knew no bounds. When introducing safety measures, he was always adamant that our emblematic 13.626-km circuit should retain its unique characteristics. Endurance racing will miss him sorely. On behalf of the ACO, I present my condolences to Charlie’s family and friends.”
