Gibson selected as LMP2 class’ exclusive power unit supplier from 2026

Following a tender launched by the FIA and the ACO this May, Gibson Technology has been appointed to remain the exclusive power unit supplier for the LMP2 class for a term of five seasons, starting from 2026.

The tendering procedure took several factors into account, such as performance, weight and reliability, running and maintenance costs of the unit, spare parts cost as well as the bidding company’s infostructure and customer service abilities, its sustainability, plus its environmental and carbon footprint.

The power unit configuration will be a 4.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8.

Despite its suspension from the FIA World Endurance Championship for 2024, due to the high volume of entries in the Hypercar class, LMP2 cars will participate in next year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans and will maintain FIA homologation. The class will also continue its presence in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, European Le Mans Series and Asian Le Mans Series.
