Pastor Maldonado with DragonSpeed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (Oreca)

DragonSpeed will be competing in the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) and the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) this year. To give itself the best possible shot, the team has hired a top-notch driver in the shape of Pastor Maldonado, a veteran of 96 Formula One Grand Prix. He will line up in an Oreca 07–Gibson in LMP2.

DragonSpeed has a busy season ahead as the team will be running a European Le Mans Series (ELMS) campaign as well as competing in the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC). Elton Julian’s American outfit will field a Dallara BR1 with a Gibson engine in LMP1 on the world stage. It will be driven by Ben Hanley, Henrik Hedman and Renger van der Zande, who claimed pole position at the 24 Hours of Daytona and finished second at the 12 Hours of Sebring on Saturday. DragonSpeed will also run an Oreca 07–Gibson in the LMP2 class for this 2018-19 FIA WEC Super Season.  The team has just announced that Roberto Gonzalez will share the wheel with Pastor Maldonado. The experienced Venezuelan will make his endurance début after clocking up 96 Formula One appearances for Williams and Lotus, winning the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix in the Williams FW34.

An Oreca 07–Gibson (LMP2) is also entered in the European Le Mans Series with the same driver line-up as 2017: Hedman, Hanley and, last weekend’s 12 Hours of Sebring winner, Nicolas Lapierre.

DragonSpeed's made its inaugural 24 Hours of Le Mans appearance last year, finishing 12th in LMP2.
