WEC - Toyota and Aston Martin take the pole at the 6 Hours of Fuji

The two qualifying sessions at the 6 Hours of Fuji, fourth round of the World Endurance Championship (WEC), resulted in pole position for the #7 Toyota in LMP1 and for the #95 Aston Martin in LMGTE Pro.

The LMP qualifying session at the 6 Hours of Fuji came down to the wire, with less than one-tenth of a second separating the two Toyota TS050 Hybrids. The pole was clinched by the #7 shared by Kamui Kobayashi, Mike Conway and José María López (1:23.557) ahead of the #8 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans winner driven by Sébastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima and Fernando Alonso. Trailing them by less than a second are the #1 and #3 Rebellion R13-Gibsons, and the BR Engineering BR1-AERs, with the #17 in fifth position.

DragonSpeed dominated the LMP2 qualifying session. The team's #31 ORECA 07-Gibson shared by Roberto Gonzalez, Pastor Maldonado and 2014 Endurance World Champion Anthony Davidson scored the pole ahead of Jackie Chan DC Racing's #37 and #38. The #36 Alpine A470-Gibson driven by 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans winners Nicolas Lapierre, André Negrão and Pierre Thiriet will start in fourth position.

In second position is the #82 BMW M8 GTE shared by Tom Blomqvist and António Félix da Costa, trailing by three-tenths, and the #97 Aston Martin of Alexander Lynn and Maxime Martin. It's going to be a tight race in this class with nine cars in the same second at the start followed by the #92 Porsche 911 RSR "Pink Pig" 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans winner.

In LMGTE Am, Porsche Dempsey-Proton Racing came out on top of the session, securing the first and third spots. Satoshi Hoshino, Giorgio Roda and Matteo Cairoli took pole position with the #88 Porsche 911 RSR. The #98 Aston Martin Vantage driven by Paul Dalla Lana, Pedro Lamy and Mathias Lauda managed to slip between the #88 and #77 for second position!
