WEC Circuit of the Americas – drivers in the land of country and western music (video)

For its latest round, the World Endurance Championship has moved to Texas, home of country and western music and of rockers ZZ Top. Here, some of the WEC drivers talk about the music they like, filmed in front of a statue of Willie Nelson (83), another icon of the American music scene, also from Texas!

Darren Turner (Aston Martin Racing) admits that he isn’t really into country music and prefers groups like Kings of Leon and Stereophonics. Nonetheless, he’s hoping for the chance to get out to the clubs of Austin after the race!

Three-time Le Mans winner, Allan McNish grew up listening to the legendary Johnny Cash (1932-2003) as his father was a great fan. He also points out that rock stars across the world experience nothing like the superstar status enjoyed by country and western musicians in the United States.

Marino Franchitti (Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Team UK) used to live in Nashville, Tennessee, and was once sponsored by Big Machine Records, a record label based in that other mecca for country music.
