WEC - A 26-car field for the 2017 6 Hours of Mexico

After the summer break, the competitors in the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) will now head to Mexico for the fifth round of the 2017 season set to take place September 1st through the 3rd.

Though there is no noteworthy change from the previous race at the Nürburgring in the LMGTE Pro class, with the exception of Sam Bird's return - taking the wheel of AF Corse's #71 Ferrari 488 GTE - nor in LMGTE Am, the same cannot be said for LMP1 and LMP2.

The absense of three competitors from the German round was more or less expected. In LMP1, ByKOLLES Racing Team, whose Enso CLM P1/01 was on its own, has chosen to focus on the development of its car for next season, and in the LMP2 class, Alpine has made no secret of the fact its second A470 will perhaps not compete in the full season.

Tockwith Motorsports, invited to Le Mans, chose to participate in the WEC Spa-Francorchamps round in preparation, and, in the wake of the 24 Hours to bolster the ranks of the championship in Germany. The British team will nonetheless take part in the Shanghai and Bahrain rounds.

In terms of the driver line-ups, all drivers who took the start at the New York round of Formula E will rejoin their teams, except Signatech Alpine. Brazilian driver André Negrão will replace Matt Rao in the #36 A470 through the end of the season.

The start of the 6 Hours of Mexico at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez will be given on Sunday, September 3rd at noon, 6:00 p.m. in the U.K.
