Valentino Rossi has the 24 Hours of Le Mans in his sights

A die-hard motorsport fan, Valentino Rossi - Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP racer and seven-time MotoGP world champion - would love to take the start in the 24 Hours of Le Mans after closing out the current leg of his career.

This past weekend at the Bugatti circuit, at the Shark Helmets French Grand Prix in which he finished fifth overall, Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP racer Valentino Rossi confirmed his goal to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans after his moto career comes to a close. In an interview given to Canal+, the Italian champion said: "Once I'm done with moto, I'll still be able to drive racing cars for a good 10 years. I really love it, so I'm going to try my hand, and I'm aiming for the 24 Hours of Le Mans."

Rossi has seven MotoGP/500cc world champion titles to his credit, including one in 250 cm2 and another in 125 cm2, as well as 89 Grand Prix wins, 198 podium finishes, 55 pole positions and 75 fastest in-race laps.

At the age of 40, Rossi is currently under contract with Yamaha until 2020, but is already looking ahead. He has several sessions under his belt at the wheel of a Formula 1 with Ferrari between 2004 and 2010, and has also won the Monza Rally Show seven times with a Ford Focus and a Fiesta WRC.

Rossi's move to the 24 Hours of Le Mans would not be unprecedented. 1987 world champion in 500 cm2 Wayne Gardner participated in the 24 Hours in 1998 at the wheel of a Riley & Scott Mk III fielded by the Solution F team and shared with Philippe Gache and Didier de Radiguès (Belgian racer and vice-world champion in 350 cm3 in 1982).
