The 24 Hours of Le Mans honored at Chantilly Arts & Elegance

This year on September 10th, the vintage car event Chantilly Arts & Elegance is paying tribute to Ferrari in celebration of the Italian marque's 70th anniversary. For the occasion, as many as 26 of the manufacturer's previous participants in the 24 Hours of Le Mans will compete in the Concours d'Etat in five different classes.

Unlike the Concours d'Elégance, the Concours d'Etat - very popular in the U.K. and the U.S. - takes into account the state of the car with two focal points for the jury composed of technical experts: authenticity and respect for the spirit of origin for restored vehicles.

The jury for the Chantilly contest, including FIA president Jean Todt who served as the head of Peugeot Sport during the era of the 905, winner at Le Mans in 1992 and 1993, will have a great deal on its plate with 26 different chassis separated into five classes: the 250s, the 365 GTB/4 Daytonas, the open body prototypes, the closed body prototypes and the GTs. Each class is comprised of six vehicles, except the prototypes with only four cars.

As a nod to history, the oldest car present on the lawns of the garden designed by Le Nôtre, a Ferrari 250 TR, won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1958 thanks to Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien. The most recent, a 550 Maranello, won the LM GT1 class in 2003 representing Prodrive with at the wheel Tomáš Enge, Peter Kox and Jamie Davies.

On Sunday, September 10th, after the Concours d'Etat makes way for the Concours d'Elégance in the afternoon, modern-day Ferraris will participate in a rally dedicated to supercars, an auction organized by Bonhams will offer several Ferraris starting at 11:00 a.m., and Mario Luraschi will present a very special equestrian demonstration.
