The 27th edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed is being held in the south of England starting today, Thursday 4 July through Sunday 7 July. The 24 Hours of Le Mans will be represented via iconic cars with special places in the history of the legendary race.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed is held annually at the private estate of the Lord March, the Duke of Richmond. The event allows spectators a close look at exemplary two and four-wheel road and racing vehicles from all eras, on display or in action on a 1.86 km circuit. A sporting car hill climb is also on the programme for cars that have made their marks on the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as cars in rally, drift, touring, NASCAR and Supercars, and road and competition motorcycles.
Like at the 87th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans three weeks ago, Bentley's 100th anniversary will be celebrated with the presence of 30 of the marque's most emblematic cars, including the #7 Bentley Speed 8 that won the 2003 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 50th anniversary of the Porsche 917 will also be saluted through the presence of 15 models, and the 917 LH normally on display at the 24 Hours Museum will be exhibited. Models of the Aston Martin DBR1 winner at Le Mans in 1959 and the Ford GT40 winner at the 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969 runnings of the race will also be on site.
