Simon Pagenaud takes pole in the Indianapolis 500

The French driver, second in the 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans, is pole-sitter in the upcoming running of the Indianapolis 500 on 26 May.

On Sunday, 2016 IndyCar Series winner Simon Pagenaud clinched pole position in this year's Indianapolis 500. The French driver, as adept at single-seaters as endurance prototypes, finished second at the 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans after an intense battle with the Audi driven by Lotterer-Fässler-Tréluyer. Only 13 seconds separated the two cars under the checkered flag. At the time, Pagenaud shared a Peugeot 908 with Pedro Lamy and Sébastien Bourdais, the lateter qualifying in seventh position for the upcoming Indy 500.

Last week in the rain, Simon Pagenaud, whose birthday was Saturday, won the IndyCar Series race also held at the Indianapolis circuit.
