It is on its home turf in Germany, during the IAA (Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung, or International Auto Show), that BMW has opted to reveal the livery of the M8 GTE with which the Munich-based marque will make its return to the world Endurance stage after several years across the Atlantic, with as best result vice-champion of GTLM Manufacturers (the equivalent of the LMGTE Pro class in the American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship) in 2015.

In the wake of its tweaking at the house track in Dingolfing, BMW and MTEK - the team in charge of running the car in the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) - have been conducting testing sessions, namely at the Lausitzring and in Barcelona. Development driver Martin Tomczyk and other drivers are in preparations for the kickoff of the 2018 season, including the Rolex 24 at Daytona, opening round of the American championship, then the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, marking the start of the 2018/2019 super season of the FIA WEC.

Though BMW has published photos and released videos of the M8 GTE set to take on Aston Martin, Ferrari, Ford, Porsche and the Chevrolet Corvette at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the German marque has yet to reveal the car's colors.
