Michael Fassbender can now cross the 24 Hours of Le Mans off his bucket list!

Actor Michael Fassbender - star of the feature film series X-Men, a Steve Jobs biopic and much more - attended the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend, a dream come true for the die-hard fan who follows the race every year on TV.

Michael Fassbender, honorary guest of the president of the ACO, was warm and friendly at the circuit this afternoon despite having had very little sleep overnight, preferring instead to soak up every minute of the 86th running of the race.

After a tour of the circuit in a prototype with four-time 24 Hours winner Yannick Dalmas, the German-born Irish actor couldn't resist going to say hello to his friend Patrick Dempsey, co-owner of the winning LMGTE Am team. Michael Fassbender: "I met Patrick in an airplane flying from Los Angeles to London, and of course we talked about car racing the entire flight! We've been friends ever since."

Fassbender, who immortalized the character Edwin Epps in the film "Twelve Years a Slave," made his debut in motorsport in 2017, competing in a few North American Ferrari Challenge races after taking lessons from a driving instructor. Having finished in the back of the field at his first race, he continues to make progress, as evidenced by several podium finishes this year. Does he see himself taking the start at the 24 Hours of Le Mans one day? "I don't know that I'll ever be that good. It all depends on how fast I improve. I have an extremely long way to go to get to Patrick's level!"
