Lanan Racing's Norma proves fastest during Road to Le Mans free practice

The first laps of Road to Le Mans (opening act for the main event on Saturday) took place tonight between the free practice and qualifying sessions for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Fifty cars (42 LMP3s and 8 GT3s) hit the track for a total of 60 minutes.

The #25 Norma M30-Nissan fielded by Lanan Racing driven by Michael Benham and Duncan Tappy proved fastest this evening with a time of 3:54:062. The car preceded the #33 Ligier JS P3 Nissan entered by United Autosports, LMP3 defending champion in the European Le Mans Series, participating in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with two cars this year. The third fastest time was clocked by the Norma M30-Nissan fielded by the Cool Racing team (#9). All three are within less than five tenths of a second.

In GT3, the #71 Ferrari 488 GT3 of AF Corse - a team also participating in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (LMGTE Pro) - shared by Piergiuseppe Perazzini and Marco Cioci finished ahead of two other Ferraris: the #51 and #54, both for Spirit of Race.

The next Road to Le Mans 60-minute free practice will start tomorrow at 09:00, followed by two qualifying sessions, then the first 55-minute race at 17:30 local time (16:30 in the U.K.). The Road to Le Mans competitors are pedal to the metal!
