Always popular across the channel, the 24 Hours of Le Mans even became known as the biggest British motor race in France. Of course, that was a tongue-in-cheek dig. But only half joking! A glance at the spectator figures shows the omnipresence of British fans since the race was first run in 1923. Not surprisingly, seeing as British manufacturers, teams, drivers and engineers have all played a part in the history of the world’s greatest endurance race. In the run-up to the 6 Hours of Silverstone – the third round in the FIA WEC Super Season – let’s take a look at Britain’s enviable record at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
