Fringe events – Jaguar in the spotlight at the Mulsanne corner

Collection car exhibition, autograph session, parade, open-air concert...the Virage de Mulsanne association has once again organized an exciting program. This legendary spot at the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit will be buzzing on Friday, June 16th with Jaguar as the guest of honor.

Sixty years ago, the Jaguar Type D driven by Ron Flockhart-Ivor Bueb won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This year, the British marque will serve as the Virage de Mulsanne association's guest of honor. The 40-member organization's president, Claude Ouvrard: "We are very fond of Jaguar. It left an indelible mark on the history of the 24 Hours so it was important to pay tribute to the mark. We also wished to remind the British public that a legendary British marque was present at the Mulsanne corner."

Eighty Jaguars will go on display at the Mulsanne corner for a stunning static exposition. Among the models expected are Jaguar Type E coupes, Type Ds, XK 120s, XK 140s, XK 150 coupes and convertibles, XJ12s, XJS coupes, XK8 coupes, XK8 cabriolets and Type Ss.

Fans of collection cars will be able to admire 400 cars set up on the stretch between the Mulsanne corner and the Arnage corner. "Volunteer track marshals will place the cars and announce them upon entry and exit with their flags," adds Claude Ouvrard.

Current and former drivers from the Drivers Club will take part in the gathering to share their 24 Hours of Le Mans experiences, including Le Mans native Jacky Haran who participated in the race back in the 1980s, former WM driver Xavier Mathiot, the Belgian Christine Beckers and Bernard Salan. "They did the 24 Hours under different conditions than those experienced by today's drivers. Most of them were volunteers and assisted in the construction of the cars. Their stories are exciting,"  notes the association's president. Miss 24 Heures will also be present.

At 4:00 p.m., the event will pause briefly so spectators can attend the great Drivers' Parade taking place in downtown Le Mans, and will start back up with a car exposition in front of the Town Hall beginning at 7:00 p.m., followed by a parade in the streets of Mulsanne starting at 8:00 p.m.and a free open-air concert.

Program:

9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.: collection car exposition on the track, former and current 24 Hours of Le Mans drivers in attendance, autograph session, musical acts, various activities with artists and writers involved with cars, an exhibition retracing the ACF Grand Prix that took place at Le Mans in 1906.
