FIA WEC championship roundup after the 1000 Miles of Sebring

Round 6 of a total 8 in the FIA World Endurance Championship took place last weekend. So, what is the outlook for the remainder of the 2018-19 Super Season?

With the 1000 Miles of Sebring trophy in hand, Toyota Gazoo Racing remains leader in the LMP1 stakes. The Japanese team has a 53-point lead over Rebellion Racing and SMP Racing is a further 27 points behind, having made up some ground with third place at Sebring. As the privateer teams jostle for position, the remaining two rounds promise to be nail-biting.

LMP2 looks to stay a close-run thing right down to the line. Jackie Chan DC Racing leads the pack with the #37 Oreca 07-Gibson on 130 points, just five points ahead of the #36 Signatech Alpine Matmut, with the other Jackie Chan DC Racing car (#38) a mere two points behind them.

Thanks to a triumph for Richard Lietz and Gianmaria Bruni triumph at Sebring, Porsche has LMGTE Pro sewn up. The German constructor has a 100-point lead over Ferrari. However, there is all to play for where second place is concerned, with Ford hot on the Italian’s heels, just two points down. Aston Martin and BMW are also still in the running.

In LMGTE Am, the Project 1 #56 Porsche 911 RSR has the upper hand, with a 25-point lead over the Spirit of Race #54 Ferrari 488 GTE. The #98 Aston Martin Vantage V8 rounds off the top three in the class.

Next up in the FIA World Endurance Championship, the Total 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) on Saturday 4 May. The season climax is the 87th annual 24 Hours of Le Mans 15–16 June when winners may also be champions.
