Ferrari announces third 488 GTE to take the start at Le Mans for AF Corse

This year, the grid in the LMGTE Pro class will be as fierce as ever at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with as many as 17 cars set to take the start, including three Ferrari 488 GTEs representing AF Corse.

To stave off Ford, Porsche and their four cars, Ferrari will field an additional car at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and attempt to win back the trophy that has eluded the Italian marque since 2014 after the win clinched by the 458 Italia driven by Gianmaria Bruni (now with Porsche), Toni Vilander (back in action) and Giancarlo Fisichella.

A two-time winner in the LMGTE Pro class in 2012 and 2014, Toni Vilander will share the #52 Ferrari with Luis Felipe "Pipo" Derani (second in the class with Ford in 2017) and Antonio Giovinazzi, making his big debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Though in the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) competitors are limited to two cars for the full season in LMGTE Pro, they are able to enter an additional car for one or more races, which is why Ford and Porsche will field four cars, and Ferrari three at the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans (tickets) against two Chevrolet Corvettes, BMWs and Aston Martins.
