F1 World Champion Jenson Button acclimates to his car ahead of Le Mans

Back in 2015 when he was still an active F1 driver, Jenson Button announced he may want to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans sometime in the future, if an opportunity in the LMP1 class became available. SMP Racing answered the call this year, and the British driver took advantage of a testing session at Magny-Cours to begin familiarizing himself with the BR Engineering BR1-AER.

It was at the Magny-Cours circuit - which he likes, though he has never won the F1 Grand Prix of France - that Jenson Button got his bearings in the LMP1 prototype with which he will take the start at the 86th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 16th, hitting the track for no less than five hours along with his teammates Vitaly Petrov (also a former F1 driver) and Mikhail Aleshin.

Pleased with his first outing with the BR Engineering BR1-AER, the 2009 F1 World Champion is quite aware he still has a lot to learn about endurance racing, namely driving at night.

Retired from F1, the Brit - currently representing Honda in Super GT (the Japanese touring car championship) - will meet back up with his former McLaren teammate Fernando Alonso who will be driving one of the two Toyota TS050 Hybrids at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
