The 2019 grid of the European Le Mans Series counts 41 cars separated into two classes: prototypes and touring cars. For the new season kicking off this weekend at Le Castellet, here's what you need to know: 

- Invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans

The 1st and 2nd competitors in the LMP2 Team classification at the end of the season will be invited to the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 class.

- Pit stops

Tyre changes during refuellings are prohibited.

- "Success ballast" for LMGTE cars

A "success ballast" will be imposed on LMGTE cars fielded in the championship. It will be in effect during all races. The ballast system uses the results of previous races (if any) and championship positions, provided that all cars start at a given season with a ballast of 0 kilograms.

It is calculated as follows: A+B+C = success ballast per car (in kilograms), with:

A determined by the result of the preceding race (race -1):

1st: +15 kg
2nd: +10 kg
3rd: +5 kg
Non-entrant: +15 kg

B determined by the results of the race prior to the previous race (race -2)

1st: +15 kg
2nd: +10 kg
3rd: +5 kg
Non-entrant: +15 kg

C determined by the current championship classification

1st: +15 kg
2nd: +10 kg
3red: +5 kg
