This coming weekend's final round of the 2017 European Le Mans Series season in Portugal will be quite decisive as there is no clear champion as of yet. While in the LMP2 and LMP3 classes, the battle for the title amounts to a duel, in LMGTE as many as five of the six competitors are still contenders.

American team United Autosports has no other option: it must win the 4 Hours of Portimão at all costs in order to win the title in the LMP2 class, well almost. Since the team is 18 points behind Russian outift G-Drive Racing and a second place finish earns 18 points, Zak Brown and Richard Dean's team could still win the title by reaching the second step on the podium if the Russian outfit fails to score a point. The sporting regulations stipulate that if two teams are tied, the title is awarded to the one who has scored the most wins, and for now United Autosports is leading with two victories over its rival G-Drive Racing.
