ELMS – Entries open for the 2020 season

Entries are now open for the 2020 European Le Mans Series season and will close on 3 February, with certain modifications having been made to the Sporting Regulations.

From 11 December 2019 through 3 February 2020, competitors are able to sign up for the 2020 season of the European Le Mans Series. Until now, invitations to the 24 Hours of Le Mans were granted to the first and second LMP2 finishers in the LMP2 Teams classification at the end of the season as well as to the first and second in LMGTE and first in LMP3. But now the invitations given will be in function of the number of entries in the corresponding class. At a minimum, one invitation to the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans will go to the first finishers in LMP2 and LMGTE.

The number of invitations granted to the 24 Hours of Le Mans has now been established as follows:

In LMP2

  • Between 6 and 11 cars entered: one invitation for first place
  • Between 12 and 17 cars entered: one invitation each for first and second places
  • Between 18 and 23 cars entered: one invitation each for first, second and third place

In LMP3

  • The top competitor in the LMP3 class will receive an invitation to the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans

In LMGTE

  • Between 4 and 7 cars entered: one invitation for first place
  • Between 8 and 11 cars entered: one invitation each for first and second places
  • Between 12 and 15 cars entered: one invitation each for first, second and third places

In an effort to promote new technologies, the Selection Committee may approve a competitor's request to present a car in the innovative class subject to the conditions set out in Article 3.2.5 of the 2020 ELMS Sporting Regulations. Recall that this year, the LMPH2G hydrogen-electric prototype of H24RACING took part in the free practice sessions for the Michelin Le Mans Cup at Spa-Francorchamps and Portimão.

Also, driver line-up composition and driving times have beem revised so as to be clearer to competitors.

In tandem with European Le Mans Series races, endurance racing fans will be able to follow rounds of the Michelin Le Mans Cup and Ligier European Series (a single marque series for JS P4s and JS2 Rs). To participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in compliance with the endurance racing pyramid initiated by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, drivers and teams must make it through several levels to facilitate their progress. The Michelin Le Mans Cup and Ligier European Series are a part of the pyramid.
