The 2020 European Le Mans Series kicks off this Sunday in Le Castellet, France. Thirty-six cars are entered, including Proton Competition's #93 Porsche 911 RSR driven by actor Michael Fassbender. At the wheel of Richard Mille Racing Team's #50 ORECA 07-Gibson, Katherine Legge, injured in an accident during qualifying, will be replaced by André Negrão joining forces with Tatiana Calderon.
The first starting grid of the 2020 European Le Mans Series season will be determined this afternoon in Le Castellet. Actor Michael Fassbender will participate at the wheel of Proton Competition's #93 Porsche 911 RSR along with Richard Lietz and Felipe Laser who will compete in the full season in the LMGTE class.
Fassbender, known for his roles in the X-Men movie franchise, is a die-hard auto racing fan. "Before becoming an actor, my big dream since I can remember was to race. My Dad was an avid driver and taught me a great deal." After a few races in the U.S. in Ferrari Challenge, he did an entire season in the Porsche Sports Cup Germany at the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, including races at the Hockenheimring, Nürburgring, Sachsenring and the Oschersleben circuit.
In his quest to take the start in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the future, this season Fassbender will hit the track at the Le Castellet, Spa, Barcelona, Monza then Portimão circuits.
In the LMP2 class, Richard Mille Racing Team's #50 ORECA 07-Gibson will be shared by Tatiana Calderon and André Negrão. The European Le Mans Series paddock released a supportive and encouraging message for Katherine Legge who suffered a tibia-fibula fracture during an incident during the qualifying sessions at the beginning of the week.
The start at the 4 Hours of Le Castellet will be given on Sunday 19 July at 11:00 local time.
