Corvette Racing will start off its 20th year in competition at the 2018 Rolex 24 at Daytona where it all began back in 1999 with the third step on the podium in its class. However, it will take one more year to celebrate the American team's 20th participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans where it achieved the same result as in Florida.
Since then, Corvette Racing's Program Director Doug Fehan and his team have carved out an impressive trrack record, with namely an overall win at Daytona in 2001. At the time, the American muscle car was not a participant in the American Le Mans Series Championship (ALMS): it has only been since the merger between the ALMS and Grand Am, which birthed the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2014, that the Rolex 24 at Daytona has been back on the program.
Corvette Racing has enjoyed a great deal of success, including winning two out of the last four editions in the GTLM class (the equivalent of the LMGTE Pro class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans) with as cherry on top a legendary mano a mano in the final laps between Oliver Gavin and Antonio Garcia, culminating in the win for Gavin, with Tommy Milner and three-time overall Le Mans winner Marcel Fässler, by 34 milliseconds in 2016.
This weekend, the Corvette Racing team - after scoring the pole at the 56th edition of the Rolex 24 at Daytona thanks to Jan Magnussen - will seek a third class trophy in four years, to be added to its eight class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
