BMW & Jan Lammers, guests of honor at Classic British Welcome ahead of 24 Hours of Le Mans

After Alpine in 2016 and Marcos in 2017, the Classic British Welcome - an annual gathering in the town of Saint-Saturnin of nearly 1,000 prestigious cars the day before the 24 Hours - has chosen to pay tribute to Bavarian marque BMW, making its big return Le Mans for the 2018 edition, and Jan Lammers, winner at the 24 Hours in 1988 with Jaguar.

Every year since 2001, Saint-Saturnin takes its cue from England and becomes the rallying point for thousands of British spectators flocking to the 24 Hours. In 2018, the organizing committee is choosing to acknowledge in its own way the official return of BMW to Le Mans. The overall winner at the 24 Hours in 1999, this time it will be in GT, and more precisely in the LMGTE Pro class, that the Bavarian marque will take on Aston Martin, Chevrolet Corvette, Ferrari, Ford and Porsche.

The other guest of honor at the Classic British Welcome will not be representing BMW at the legendary race. Instead, Jan Lammers will be participating in the LMP2 class with Racing Team Nederland (if the team's request for an invitation is approved by the Selection Committee). The Batavian driver will also be celebrating a milestone this year: the 30th anniversary of his win with Jaguar along with Johnny Dumfries and Andy Wallace. As an interesting side note, Lammers will be taking his 24th start at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on Saturday, June 16, 2018.

"Our goal is to acknowledge and be a part of BMW's return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans," explains Stéphane Auvrignon, the President of the Association. "The main BMW clubs in France, as well as the BMW Legrand Le Mans establishments, were immediately on board with our idea. Their involvement will foster an impressive gathering of the marque's modern and vintage cars in Saint-Saturnin, within the various exhibition areas of the Val-de-Vray cultural center."

Admission into the Classic British Welcome - held in Saint-Saturnin, SIVOM de l’Antonnière, Val-de-Vray cultural center - is free of charge and open to everyone.
