Sepang is a regular fixture of the series but this year the 4-hour race will be run at night for the first time. Qualifications and the race itself take place on Saturday with the start at 17:00 local time.

Competition has been stiff so far this season. G-Drive Racing by Algarve (#26 Aurus 01-Gibson) currently has a 13-point lead over Eurasia Motorsport (#36 Ligier JS P217). Thunderhead Carlin Racing (#45 Dallara P217) is next, 6 points behind Eurasia Motorsport. A championship win is synonymous with a ticket to the 24 Hours of Le Mans and therefore sought-after.

American team Rick Ware Racing (#52 Ligier JS P2) won the 4 Hours of The Bend and heads the tables in LMP2 Am.
Nielsen Racing (#2 Norma M30) and Inter Europol Competition (#13 Ligier JS P3) only have one point between them in LMP3. The two teams have a win and a second place apiece. Having clinched pole position at the 4 Hours of The Bend gives Nielsen a slight advantage in the pecking order.
A battle is raging in GT too. Car Guy (#7 Ferrari 488 GT3) is only two points ahead of D’Station Racing (#77 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3). HubAuto Corsa (#27 Ferrari 488 GT3) is also in the race for the title, trailing D’Station Racing by just five points.

Watch out for French team Graf in the second half of the season. They will be fielding a second Norma M30 with Matthias Kaiser and Rory Penttinen assuming driving duties at Sepang.

In the Asian Le Mans series, LMP2, LMP2 Am Trophy, LMP3 and GT class winners all receive invitations to the 24 Hours of Le Mans (conditions apply).
