All competitors expected to take part in Test Day on Sunday have submitted to the necessary preceding technical and administrative checks. Here's an update on Corvette Racing, Porsche GT Team and driver Oliver Gavin.
American team Corvette Racing fielding two Chevrolet Corvette C7-Rs at the 86th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans shipped 15 tons of materials (spare parts, supplies and more) by air freight from the U.S. to France, and that doesn't even include the weight of their three cars (two starters and one reserve). Just one Chevrolet Corvette C7-R weighs approximately 1,245 kg! How much does that amount to in extra baggage fees?
Any driver taking on the 24 Hours of Le Mans must be physically fit, which is why they never stop fine-tuning their bodies. Dominik Kraihamer, representing ByKOLLES Racing at the wheel of the #4 ENSO CLM P1/01-Nismo, is no exception to the rule. Yesterday, the Austrian driver took part in a final intensive workout before heading into Test Day this coming Sunday.
In celebration of Porsche's 70th anniversary, the pits occupied by the #91 and #92 911 RSRs have been given a "vintage" makeover thanks to brick-faced siding and antique-looking furniture, and it certainly stands out in pit lane!
The #91 and #92 Porsche 911 RSRs will soon be given their 24 Hours of Le Mans liveries.
Ten 911 RSRs are expected to participate in the race, four in LMGTE Pro and six in LMGTE Am.
The driver of the #64 Chevrolet Corvette C7-R for Corvette Racing is on his way to the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit, making his way from the U.K. in his personal Corvette Z06, with bike in tow...on the roof!
This weekend, five drivers will participate in the third round of the DTM (German touring car championship): Mike Rockenfeller (#63 Chevrolet Corvette), Loïc Duval (#28 ORECA 07-Gibson), Philipp Eng (#81 BMW), Augusto Farfus (#82 BMW) and Paul Di Resta (#22 Ligier JS P217-Gibson). Rockenfeller, Farfus and Di Resta must complete a minimum 10 laps of the circuit during Test Day, including at least five timed.
Mike Rockenfeller has not taken the start at the 24 Hours of Le Mans since 2012. In a previous interview with an editor of lemans.org, Mike Rockenfeller explained: "After Audi, I had to make a decision, the DTM (German touring car championshiop, Ed.) or the World Endurance Championship. At one point it looked like I could do both, but it became too complicated. In the end, I chose the DTM, but I've always wanted to return to Le Mans."
