24 Hours of Le Mans – 2019 Road To Le Mans, first laps (video)

Today's free practice today at 20:30 will get the 2019 running of Road To Le Mans underway. The first race will take place on Thursday 13 June at 17:30, the second on Saturday 15 June at 11:30.

Road To Le Mans, the field of which is comprised of LMP3 and GT prototypes, is one of the first levels on the endurance pyramid. The race allows teams and drivers - mostly from the Michelin Le Mans Cup and European Le Mans Series - to race at the famous 24 Hours circuit and attempt to get noticed. Road To Le Mans gave us young French driver Thomas Laurent who has enjoyed a meteroic rise ever since: 2016 Road To Le Mans winner, then LMP2 winner at the 2017 24 Hours as a rookie (second overall), he moved into LMP1 when he joined Rebellion Racing, finishing third in 2018!

This year, six teams are entered in both Road To Le Mans and the 87th running of the 24 Hours: Graff, RLR M Sport, United Autosports, Spirit Of Race, Inter Europol Competition and Kessel Racing. A driver line-up to watch is that of Filière de Frédéric Sausset, the quadruple amputee who took the start in the 2016 24 Hours. All three drivers are disabled - Japanese driver Takuma Aoki, Frenchman Snoussi Ben Moussa and Belgian Nigel Bailly - and will share the #84 Ligier JS P3-Nissan. The trio's goal is to gain experience for the 2020 24 Hours. Also, a previous winner is competing in this year's race: Dutch driver and 1988 winner with Jaguar Jan Lammers at the wheel of the #95 Bentley GT3.

50 driver line-ups are set to take the start in two 55-minute races on Thursday 13 June (at 17:30) and Saturday 15 June (at 11:30) as a curtain-raiser to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
