24h Le Mans
24 Hours of Le Mans race week traditionally gets under way with the technical and administrative checks, known as scrutineering. Things got started in the centre of Le Mans this Sunday afternoon at 2pm as the teams lined up for a mandatory inspection of their cars and of the drivers’ gear and licences.
The first team up for scrutineering was So24 ! by Lombard Racing. Their Ligier JS P2 with its Judd engine underwent the full batch of checks, followed by Fabien Barthez and his outfit Panis Barthez Compétition. Then it was the turn of the Porsche Hybrids to file out onto Place de la République. Despite the drizzle and showers, there was a large crowd for this first of two days’ scrutineering and there’s already a real buzz ahead of this year’s race. The drivers of the Porsche 919 Hybrids and the Porsche 911 RSRs have also completed the mandatory checks this afternoon. The media and the fans were then keen to see Frédéric Sausset, the first quadruple-amputee to compete at the race, which starts at 3pm next Saturday.
Other teams due up today include Toyota Gazoo Racing and the Ford GTs. The day’s session will come to a close with Murphy Prototypes and their Oreca 03R powered by a Nissan engine.
