2019 24 Hours of Le Mans – What's happening on Sunday 9 June?

Today (Sunday 9 June) marks the beginning of the much anticipated 24 Hours of Le Mans Race Week. From 14:00, 22 of the 62 competitors in the 87th running of the French endurance classic will head to Place de la République in the centre of Le Mans for the technical and administrative checks, known as "Scrutineering”. A unique opportunity for race fans and passers-by to get a close-up view of the cars and drivers. The event is open to all, free of charge.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans Race Week kicks off with the now traditional scrutineering sessions. Today and tomorrow, the 62 competitors in the 87th running of the world’s greatest endurance race will head to the centre of Le Mans to undergo a series of technical and administrative checks. Race officials check drivers’ papers and kit while cars undergo close inspection by scrutineers to ensure compliance with regulations.

Scrutineering is always a special time for the drivers. It signals the start of their 24 Hours of Le Mans experience and is their first encounter with race fans, who are delighted to be able to collect autographs and selfies. The scrutineers, meanwhile, have a serious job to do!
The first car up this year is the Jackie Chan DC Racing #37 Oreca 07-Gibson. It will go before the scrutineers at 14:30. The final car at the Sunday session is the Idec Sport #48 Oreca 07-Gibson, at 18:00.
