It goes without saying that all the main players in the endurance world will be doing battle on the Bugatti circuit. Yet there will be something for everyone on the programme as five support races will also be run. They are the Championnat de France de Vitesse en Motos Anciennes, the Ducati Club de France/La Furia di Bologna, the Proclassic Championship, the Women’s Cup and the FIM Sidecar World Championship.

Championnat de France de Vitesse en Motos Anciennes

The Bugatti will host the second of the nine rounds that make up the Championnat de France de Vitesse en Motos Anciennes for vintage and classic motorcycles. Around forty riders across two classes are expected on the starting grid. The Vintage class features machines from 1966 to 1970 such as the Ducati 350, the Honda 350 and the Yamaha 350, while the Classic category comprises motorcycles ranging from 350 cc to 1000 cc built by Honda, Ducati, BSA and many others between 1979 and 1981.

La Furia di Bologna organised by the Ducati Club de France

Fans of machines built by the Italian manufacturer will gather at Le Mans for two races ahead of the main event. They will combine various categories from the Ducati Club de France’s usual sprint rounds, ranging from the carburated Ducati 900 SS (or Mostro) of the 1990s to today’s 2018 Panigale V4. The odds may be stacked, but participants are attracted by the prospect of riding with fellow fanatics on a world-famous circuit in front of big crowds.

Proclassic

The Proclassic championship, which kicks off its 2018 season at the 24 Heures Motos, is a fantastic opportunity for enthusiasts to indulge their passion for classic sports and racing bikes.  The Proclassic is designed for neomodern machines in the 600 Supersport and Superbike (750 cc and 1000 cc) categories. The Suzuki GSX-R, Yamaha R1/R6, Ducati 748/749/998/999 and Honda CBR will therefore face off on the Bugatti track. This championship promises a thrill-a-minute race where everything is to play for right up to the chequered flag.

The Women’s Cup

Growing numbers of female competitors are attracted to motorcycle racing. In 2016, the Women’s Cup was staged for the first time as a support race to the 24 Heures Motos. This season, the championship will take in four races, with the first held at the Bugatti circuit in Le Mans.
The line-up embraces both novice and seasoned riders, competing in 600 cc, 1000 cc roadster and sportsbike classes.

FIM Sidecar World Championship

The FIM Sidecar World Championship is back in town with Le Mans the stage of the season-opener this year, the first of seven rounds.
The spectacular race always attracts a crowd. Sidecar racing involves a two-person crew: a driver or “pilot” and a passenger, often known as a “monkey” whose acrobatic role is to transfer weight to gain traction.
