WEC - A full field of 30 competitors for the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps

Since the (re)birth of the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) in 2012, the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps has acted as the final rehearsal before the legendary 24 Hours, which is why certain Le Mans competitors jump on the FIA WEC bandwagon in the Belgian Ardennes.

The race will mark the first appearance of the third Toyota TS050 HYBRID the Japanese manufacturer will enter at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the trio Stéphane Sarrazin, Nicolas Lapierre (back with Toyota fresh off two consecutive wins in the LMP2 class at Le Mans) and Yuji Kunimoto.

Though the LMP1 field will be comprised of six cars, the LMP2 class will grow to 11 competitors with the arrival of the second Alpine A470 for Nelson Panciatici, Pierre Ragues (rejoining the Signatech Alpine team) and André Negrão, a newcomer to endurance racing.

Driving the the Alpine A470 for the first time, Romain Dumas - two-time overall winner at the 24 Hours - who with the approval of his employer, Porsche, will replace Nicolas Lapierre for the Belgian and French rounds. Though the French driver has never won the LMP2 class at Le Mans, the change will not be a culture shock since he won overall at the 12 Hours of Sebring with the Porsche RS Spyder in 2008 against much more powerful Audi and Peugeot LMP1s.

Lastly, the Tockwith Motorsports team, having switched from LMP3 to LMP2 during the offseason, will make its debut in the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) before its first appearance in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A competitor in the European Le Mans Series, the British outfit will welcome Karun Chandhok to support Phil Hanson and Nigel Moore for the two races.

There are no changes to the LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am classes as compared to the first round at Silverstone where the official Ford GT and Clearwater Racing's Ferrari 488 GTE pulled off impressive performances.

The start of the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps will be given on Saturday, May 6th at 2:30 p.m. local time.
