After a day dedicated to administrative and technical checks, the drivers will hit the track late morning in race configuration for the first time of the season given the purpose of the Prologue, the official testing sessions of the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) at Monza in Italy earlier this month, was to rack up kilometers and gain experience.
Before competing, drivers and team managers must attend a briefing conducted by the Race Director, then pose for the official photo since it's the first round of the season. The green light will be given at the end of pit lane at 11:45 a.m. for a first 90-minute free practice followed by a second session of equal duration at the end of the afternoon starting at 4:45 p.m., after the ELMS competitors finish their three qualifying sessions (one per class).
The format is different for the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC), with two 20-minute qualifying sessions, one for the LM GTE Pro and LM GTE Am classes at 1:00 p.m., and the other at 1:30 p.m. for the LM P1s and LM P2s, all of which will take part in a third and final one-hour free practice on Saturday, April 15th between 9:40 a.m. and 10:40 a.m.
Fans will be able to walk freely in pit lane twice at Silverstone: for one hour on Saturday between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., during the ELMS race, the paddocks of the two championships in two separate locations, then for early risers, for 45 minutes on Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m.
This time, drivers will not wait for fans at their respective pits for the traditional pre-race autographs as that will take place in the paddock on Sunday, April 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The competitors will then need to prep quickly as the start of the 6 Hours of Silverstone will be given at noon.
All times are local times.
