The highlight of last season was undoubtedly the third place finish in the LM P2 class for the BR01, a house prototype developed by Paolo Catone who played a role in the development of the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP, overall winner at Le Mans in 2009. The remainder of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) season proved much more difficult, with no further podium finishes for a team that had won in its first attempt in the LM P2 class in 2014.
However, the ELMS did prove more successful for SMP Racing with three podium finishes - at Silverstone, Le Castellet and Estoril - in five races, allowing the team to finish in third place in the LM P2 Teams standings with the BR01, competing in its final season. The car will be replaced by a Dallara compliant with the new technical regulations for the class in effect January 1st of this year.
In 2017, SMP Racing will not compete in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) to focus on its new efforts in LM P1 with a non-hybrid prototype in collaboration with Dallara for 2018.
