Le Mans 24 Hours of Cycling a huge success!

The Bugatti track was inundated with bikes this weekend, when over 2,100 cyclists took to the track in the 8th annual 24 Hours of Cycling.

The starter was famous French TV presenter Michel Drucker, a keen cyclist himself. Precisely 2,141 cyclists split into 475 teams of 6 took part in the race. Just like for the famous endurance sports car race, competitors performed a relay race, braving wind and rain, bright sun and darkness to clock up as many kilometres as possible over 24 hours.

The winning team was S1neo team connect, who retain the title they won last year, bettering their overall distance (975.11km compared to 970.69km in 2015). Kilian Patour, Sebastien Chevau, Sebastien Duret, Benoit Poitevin, Yoann Proust and Frédéric Leproux are champions once again, ahead of Team Mutuelle Solimut Region Océan and Team B&F.

Several sports personalities were among the competitors, including recordbreaking hammer thrower Manuela Montebrun. Recently retired professional cyclist Anthony Geslin (bronze medallist in the 2005 world championships) was also in the line-up. Former ski champion and racing driver Luc Alphand joined him, as did five-time winner of the Paris-Dakar rally, Cyril Despres.
