Gianmaria Bruni becomes an official Porsche driver in GT

A few hours after Ferrari confirmed the end of its relationship with Gianmaria Bruni, Porsche announced the Italian driver will be joining its ranks. Released in June by Ferrari, the three-time class winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans will start testing in the 911 in June before racing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship as of July.

Rumors concerning Gianmaria Bruni's future with Ferrari have been circulating, but the Italian manufacturer, as well as Porsche, had delayed announcing the composition of their driver line-ups in endurance racing for the 2017 season. The suspense finally ended today when Ferrari announced "Gimmi" Bruni - who has won three times in GT at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, first with Risi Competizione's Ferrari 430 in 2008, then with AF Corse's Ferrari 458 Italia in 2012 and 2014 - will be released from his contract in June.

Considered one of the best GT drivers in the world, the 35 year old "king" of qualifying will begin representing Porsche in July. The German manufacturer chose the American championship as a first playing field over the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in which it won the FIA Endurance GT Drivers Cup in 2013 and 2014.

Porsche has yet to reveal all the names of the trios set to participate in the 85th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Only Richard Lietz, Michael Christensen and Frédéric Makowiecki have been confirmed for now
