ELMS - A summary of the 4 Hours of the Red Bull Ring

The 4 Hours of the Red Bull Ring was thrilling from beginning to end, with final results playing out in LMP3 and GTE in the last lap. In the end, United Autosports (#32 Ligier JS P217-Gibson) won with a lead of just a few seconds on G-Drive Racing's #22 Oreca 07-Gibson.

- A few drivers from the 24 Hours of Le Mans were present at the Red Bull Ring, not for the four-hour race but for the Ennstal-Classic vintage rally race. Among them were Derek Bell (five-time winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans) in a 1929 Bentley 4, Patrick Dempsey (four participations in Le Mans) at the wheel of a Porsche 365 Speedster, Neel Jani (defending world endurance champion and winner at the 2016 24 Hours), Fritz Enzinger (head of the Porsche LMP1 program) in a Porsche 356 Speedster A, Hans Joachim Stuck (two-time winner at Le Mans in 1986 and 1987) in a 1960 Porsche 356 Carrera Abarth and Mark Webber (Grand Marshal at this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans) in a Porsche 550 Spyder.

- Yann Ehrlacher returned at the wheel of the #19 Norma M30 entered by Yvan Muller Racing (his uncle's team) in the LMP3 class after having missed the Monza round. The young driver just won his very first race in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) in Argentina last weekend.

- A different kind of race was organized on Friday evening. It pitted against one another four ELMS drivers: Filipe Albuquerque (United Autosports), Nicki Thiim (TF Sport), Memo Rojas (G-Drive Racing) and Martin Hippe (Inter Europol Competition, LMP3). Each one joined forces with a journalist for a slot car competition! The drivers happily took part and Nicki Thiim emerged the victor!

Michelin Le Mans Cup

- The third round of the Michelin Le Mans Cup also took place at the Red Bull Ring. After a top notch good performance, DKR Engineering's #3 Norma 30 Nissan driven by Alex Toril et Jean Glorieux claimed the top step on the podium. It was the second victory in a row for the Luxembourg team after winning Road to Le Mans, the curtain-raiser to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The car finished ahead of Nielsen Racing's #79 Ligier JS P3-Nissan, Graff's #65 and Motorsport98's #98 - the top four in the championship!

- Also in the Michelin Le Mans Cup, victory in the GT3 class was clinched by the Ebimotors team's #46 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 driven by Emmanuele Busnelli and Fabio Babini, allowing the team to take the lead in the championship. The car finished ahead of Spirit of Race's #95 Ferrari 458 Italia and Optimum Racing's #75 Audi R8 LMS.

ELMS

- United Autosports' second win with the #32 Ligier JS P217-Gibson entrusted to Filipe Albuquerque, Will Owen and Hugo de Sadeleer, allowing the American team to move to within four points of the championship leader, G-Drive Racing (#22 Oreca 07-Gibson).

- First victory for the #11 Ligier JS P3 entered by Eurointernational and driven by Giorgio Mondini et Davide Uboldi.

- Second one-two for United Autosports winner in the LMP2 and LMP3 classes, like at Silverstone in the U.K. for the opening round of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS).

- First win, on the other hand, for Spirt of Race's Ferrari 488 GTE driven by Duncan Cameron, Aaron Scott and Matt Griffin in the LMGTE class.

- The next round of the ELMS, the fourth of the season, will take place on August 27th at the Circuit Paul Ricard in the Var region of France.
