Clearwater Racing looking to compete in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2017

Clearwater Racing intends to take part in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) this year with a Ferrari F488 LM GTE entered in the LM GTE AM class. If it is approved, the team from Singapore could very well compete in its second 24 Hours of Le Mans in the wake of its first appearance last year (fourth in its class).

Clearwater Racing is well known in the paddocks of the Asian Le Mans Series. Indeed, the team won the GT title in 2015/2016 (with a McLaren 650S GT3) which earned it an invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This past June, the driver line-up of Rob Bell, Mok Weng Sun and Keita Sawa (Ferrari F458 Italia) made its mark at the 24 Hours by scoring pole position and finishing fourth in the LM GTE Am class.

Once again present this year in the Asian Le Mans Series with a Ferrari F488 GT3, Clearwater Racing - in collaboration with AF Corse - hopes to compete in the fulll World Endurance Championship (WEC) season with its current trio of drivers: Mok Weng Sun, Keita Sawa and Matt Griffin. If that comes to fruition, the team will be the first from Southeast Asia to participe in the FIA WEC.

Mok Weng Sung, Clearwater Racing Team Principal and Driver: "We’ve been thinking about this for a while, but it’s a big commitment, financially as well as time wise. I’ve been waving back and forth on the idea, and then this weekend I just had a good chat with the team and said ‘Let’s go do it’. I was actually planning on retiring from racing after this season in the Asian Le Mans Series; I’ve been doing it for 11 years and I’ll be turning 50 next year, so I thought I’d wind it back. But the lure of being able to race in the premier GT championship in the World was just too much of a lure, and of course I want to go back to Le Mans, and so to have a guaranteed entry as well as the ability to race on the greatest circuits on the planet with top rated teams, I just said – Let’s go do it!"
