Any spectator of the race will tell you that at Le Mans, time is of the essence.
Yet there was no official clock at the circuit until 1931. The first one, made by Brillié and sponsored by Dunlop, stood over the pit lane and ticked away every second of the fastest 24 hours in a racing fan’s life. It was later replaced by clocks bearing the names Hardyau and then Dutray, two well-known local jewellers. Today’s timekeeper, the spectacular two-faced Rolex, stands as a reminder that time waits for no-one. In Le Mans more than anywhere, time certainly flies.
