The 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans for Racing Team Nederland (LMP2)

43 teams (fielding 61 cars) competed in the 87th 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Super Finale of the FIA WEC 2018-19 World Endurance Championship. There were winners, of course, but also mechanical glitches, track incidents and early retirements. Joy for some, disappointment for others... Here’s a summary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the Racing Team Nederland team, which ran in the LMP2 class.
The 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans for Racing Team Nederland (LMP2)

Team: Racing Team Nederland

Class: LMP2

Car: Dallara P217-Gibson

Drivers:

  • Frits van Eerd (3rd participation)
  • Giedo van der Garde (2nd participation)
  • Nyck de Vries (1st participation)

One of the two Dallara P217-Gibsons at the start was decorated in a livery inspired by the Minardi M192, a single-seater fielded by Scuderia Minardi in the 1992 Formula 1 World Championship. The Dutch team founded by Jan Lammers, previous 24 Hours of Le Mans winner with Jaguar in 1988, qualified the car in 16th position with a time of 3:27.107 clocked by Nyck de Vries during the second session. The #29 Dallara P217-Gibson's race was disrupted when de Vries left the track at the Indianapolis corner on Sunday at 11:20. Despite damage to the front of the car, the Dutch driver was able to return to the garage with much determination. Racing Team Nederland finished 26th overall and 15th in the LMP2 class. The team ended the 2018-2019 FIA WEC season in sixth place in the FIA Endurance LMP2 Teams Trophy.
