Stoffel Vandoorne to tackle AOTech simulator ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Before they can compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, rookies and any driver who has not driven in the race for five years must prepare for the event by spending a day on the AOTech simulator. Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne, set to make his Le Mans début with SMP Racing, is booked into the Tigery centre near Paris on Wednesday 22 May for his mandatory practice session.

Stoffel Vandoorne has undoubtedly picked up some sound tips from former teammate Fernando Alonso ahead of his first 24 Hours of Le Mans, but the former McLaren Formula One driver will still have to undergo simulator testing to comply with Automobile Club de l’Ouest regulations!  Following his introduction to endurance – and his new team SMP Racing – at the Total 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps earlier this month, Vandoorne will be tested on the AOTech simulator on 22 May. The session will cover the specific features of the 13.626-km circuit, the various types of weather and changing grip conditions he might face, driving in the dark, coping with traffic day and night, safety procedures and the marshals’ posts. In fact, everything a rookie needs to know about the rules and environment specific to this extraordinary race.

Stoffel Vandoorne will be available for media interviews from 11:30 to 12:15 at Tigery.
