In 2019, 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans winner and two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso will once again try his chances at the Indianapolis 500, with McLaren. His goal: the Triple Crown of Motorsport (winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Monaco Grand Prix and the Indianapolis 500).
In the wake of his victory at the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans, two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso has just announced he will take the start at the Indianapolis 500 next year, with McLaren. It will be the Spanish driver's second participation in the legendary American race. "I've been saying for quite some time that I want to win the Triple Crown," admitted Fernando Alonso, looking to join Graham Hill, the only driver in history to have achieved the feat. "I had a wonderful experience in 2017 and knew deep down that I needed to return [to the Indianapolis 500] if the opportunity presented itself. I am particularly pleased to be returning with McLaren. It was always my first choice if the team decided to do it again. It's a difficult race up against the best of the best. But we're competitors and that's why we do what we do."
The Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for 26 May 2019.
