A few months after taking part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2010, Lord Drayson decided to redevelop his Lola LM P1 as an electric car ... The programme continues.
Absent from circuits since 2010, the Drayson Racing team have been running on test tracks away from prying eyes - except for a demonstration given at Goodwood in July, during which the Lola beat the record for electric cars with a 53 second ascent (video above).
Yesterday, the green prototype was in private testing in the hands of Lord Drayson. The objective was to validate the new system for recovering kinetic energy (KERS). For the test, new body parts were developed by WMG who were also present. According to the comment posted by the team on Twitter, the test was judged a success.
The outcome of the programme is unclear. The former government Minister envisages the development of a car for the future Formula E Championship (2014). Its design was entrusted to the Royal College of Art in London. A nomination for the 56th pit has not been mentioned, but Lord Drayson said he would run his Lola at the Test Day 24 Hours of Le Mans ... To be continued!
