DeltaWing returns at Petit Le Mans + Video

AS RUMOURED IN THE LAST FEW DAYS, THE NISSAN DELTAWING IS CONFIRMED AS PARICIPATING AT ROAD ATLANTA IN PETIT LE MANS, THE CLOSING ROUND OF THE ALMS AND ELMS 2012. IN THE VIDEO ABOVE, THE NISSAN DELTAWING NISSAN AT THE 24 HEURES DU MANS 2012.

The premature exit of the Nissan DeltaWing from 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2012, left an aftertaste of unfinished business, given the promise shown at the Test Day on the 3rd of June. This is confirmed by Darren Cox, Managing Director of Nissan Europe: "Le Mans was a huge success for us - the car did everything we wanted it to do and more. The only thing that didn't go our way was the way the race ended for us. We were blown away by the level of support and goodwill that came our way from the fans so now we feel we owe it to them to race again. I'm very proud that Lucas will get his chance in the car."

Due to a calendar clash for Marino Franchitti, Michael Krumm and Satoshi Motoyama, the trio of drivers at Le Mans, la Nissan DeltaWing will be driven at Petit Le Mans by Lucas Ordonez, graduate of the Nissan GT Academy, and Gunnar Jeannette, ALMS 2011 LMPC title holder.Darren Cox: "We're thrilled to welcome Gunnar to the Nissan DeltaWing team. He is a former American Le Mans Series champion and knows Road Atlanta like the back of his hand so he is the perfect addition to the squad". Traditional season closer for ALMS, Petit Le Mans is raced over 1,000 miles (1,600 km) or a maximum of ten hours.

Owner of Road Atlanta and creator of the American Le Mans Series, Don Panoz has also stated that the DeltaWing will be on the grid in the 2013 season and will be part of the fusion between ALMS and Grand Am in 2014. Besides Don Panoz, Nissan and Michelin the DeltaWing has the three other big names in the sport: Chip Ganassi, sponsor and team owner, Dan Gurney, a former driver, builder and winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1967, and Duncan Dayton, owner of Highcroft Racing who took the ALMS title in 2009 and 2010.

Ben Bowlby: "At Petit Le Mans, we will get the chance to show the US fans just how cool this car is but also the chance to prove that it works on a much tighter, twistier road course, rather than the flat-out, 300kmh, Le Mans-style racetrack. It's important for us to gain in lap experience, testing and driver feedback and really validate the whole concept."
