One of the big features in the 24 Hours this year was the come back of an “Art Car” by BMW, the 79 by Jeff Koons. “It caused a real stir among fans and media,” stated Mario Theissen, the head of BMW Motorsport. Before it retired, it was involved in a race incident when Tom Kristensen’s Audi ran off the track to avoid the BMW, which was driving at a slow pace.

The other BMW finished 6th in the LMGT2 category. “In the short time available to us with our car in this specification, we were not able to prepare perfectly for the peculiarities of this circuit,” said Jörg Muller. “As a motorsport fan, it is worth coming here for the Drivers' Parade alone. I don't think I have ever signed as many autographs!” “Despite our difficulties, I really enjoyed my debut in Le Mans,” added his Brazilian team mate Augusto Farfus. “I now have some idea about just how big this event really is.”
