24 Hours of Le Mans - Hour 5 Recap

The temperatures at Le Mans continue to rise as Toyota continues to lead.

LMP1

Nick Tandy (Porsche #1) was able to make up some ground on the #7 Toyota and even led a lap while the Toyota was in pit lane, but Stéphane Sarrazin is back out front in the #7. He is ahead of André Lotterer who has taken over the #1 for Tandy.

The #8 and #9 Toyotas are third and fourth, respectively, but the #9 had to make an unscheduled pit stop to fix its right-side door, which was open on course.

The #2 Porsche has returned from the garage after a front-axle drive issue. Brendon Hartley is now behind the wheel, but 20 laps down on the leader.

LMP2

The #36 Alpine has gone back to the garage with gearbox trouble.

Vaillante Rebellion still dominates the class. The #31 ORECA leads the #13 ORECA.

The #24 ORECA of CEFC Manor TRS Racing is still third with the #38 ORECA and #37 ORECA entered by Jackie Chan DC Racing hot on its heals.

LMGTE Pro

The #66 and #67 Fords are holding their own in the top three, chasing down the #97 Aston Martin.

Another American manufacturer, Chevrolet, is charging its way into the top five. Marcel Fässler is up to fifth in the #64 Corvette behind the #51 Ferrari.

At the close of the hour, the #82 Ferrari (Kaffer) was hit by the #28 ORECA on the Mulsanne, sending the Ferrari spinning into the guardrail. The #28 continued.

LMGTE Am

It’s still Aston Martin versus Ferrari in the LMGTE Am class. The #98 has retaken the lead with Mathias Lauda at the wheel. He leads the #90 Aston Martin driven by Euan Hankey and the #84 Ferrari that Dries Vanthoor has now handed over to Robert Smith.
