The club run as an association is expanding rapidly. In addition to managing the Le Mans circuit on which a group of prestigious motor sporting events take place for cars, motorcycles and trucks (the most famous of which is the Le Mans 24 Hours), it concentrates on developing motor sport on an international basis through the different series run under the Le Mans label.
Fifty-three-year-old Patrick Debrot from the Burgundy region is married and has one daughter, and has both French and Swiss nationality. He studied at the HEC (a prestigious French business school) and speaks English, German and Dutch fluently.
He has carved out a career for himself in the world of the motorcar, which began at Ford France where he learned the commercial side of the business over a four-year period.
He then spent twenty-two years at Renault where he held a number of jobs with international responsibility. These included marketing manager for Europe from 1985 to 1988, Renault general manager in Switzerland (1989-1994) after which he had the same job in Holland (1995-1997). He then became sales manager for utility vehicles on a worldwide basis (1997-2000) and finally sales manager for the Asia/Pacific region (2000-2007) based in Tokyo.
Four grand prix are held in the region where he last worked, and they served to underline his passion for motor racing.
“My arrival at the ACO is a logical step in my career,” Patrick points out. “It’s a company with a hundred years of history behind it. It manages and develops products bearing a prestigious name, which have a bright future ahead of them, while still retaining its human dimension, something that appeals to me. The Automobile Club de l’Ouest and the events it has become a specialist in on a worldwide basis also embody my values: perseverance, endurance, safety and an opening to the world. My aim is to develop the ACO’s activity and give it wider international impact.”
Patrick Debrot is very much at ease in marketing management, communications and commercial negotiations, and his mission dovetails perfectly with the one mapped out by Jean-Claude Plassart, the ACO President.
