Unlike the cars entered in GTE Pro, those in the GTE Am category must be at least one year old, and there must be at least one gentleman driver in the line-up for each race. Six cars have been entered for the full 2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, five of which will race in the Sebring 12 Hours as AF Corse has been forced to withdraw from this event. Krohn Racing and CRS Racing have entered a couple of Ferraris. There will be three other very different cars up against the Prancing Horse F430 GTs: a Corvette C6-ZR1 entered by the French squad Larbre Competition with the backing of the American manufacturer, and Aston Martin will give its official support to the Gulf AMR Middle East Vantage. German manufacturer, Porsche, will be represented by the Proton Competition team with backing from the factory for its Porsche 911 RSR 997. Like all the other ILMC categories, LM GTE Am looks like being a hotly-disputed one.
A title will be awarded at the end of the season in LM GTE Am to the best team.
