These cars are designed for the Le Mans 24 Hours and for endurance races in the Le Mans Series in Europe, the American Le Mans Series in North America and the Asian Le Mans Series in Asia. Provided there are no major upsets, victory in the overall distance classification should go to an LM P1 prototype.

They can have open or closed bodywork and compete in the LM P1 and LM P2 categories depending on their technical data, weight and power. All cars have air restrictors on the inlet manifold to balance the performance between the two categories.

This category is aimed in priority at private teams.

The cost of a new car (engine not included) must not exceed 345 000 euros (see below for engine prices).

Each line-up must include a gentleman driver who meets the criteria of the driver categorization system already in force.

To avoid forcing the teams to invest in a new car in 2011, the 2010 LM P2s (without cost caps) are allowed to race in 2011. The ACO will make adjustments to ensure that they are not quicker than the 2011 cars.

Blue numbers and diodes on the flanks. Drivers: a crew (two or three drivers) must contain at least one driver from the silver or bronze category.
