The longest circuit

The legend…

Measuring 13.629 km. long, this layout, legendary since 1923, is one of the longest racing circuits in the world.

Charles BARRE - ACO/Nikon

What makes it unique is that a portion of the circuit is in fact a trunk road which is only used about 10 days a year for practices or competitions; the rest of the year, it is open to public traffic.

Parts of the circuit belong to motor car legend: the Tertre Rouge and Maison Blanche bends, the Dunlop Bridge, and the straight line of the Hunaudières (the Mulsanne Straight).

Over the years, the shape of the circuit has been changed, especially for safety reasons, which is one of the Organisation’s main concerns.

In 1966, a shorter permanent circuit (the Bugatti circuit, measuring 4.185 km.) was added. This circuit shares the pits, the straight line in front of the pits, the Dunlop bend and chicane (including the famous Dunlop footbridge).

Since its creation in 1923, and following the changes made to the layout, the length of the circuit has constantly undergone modifications.
