The forces at play in LM GTE Am

The LM GTE Am class is primarily made up of gentlemen-drivers and though the cars at the start are more than a year old, the competition is no less fierce since like the overall winners, the victors will step up on the podium in front of 250,000 spectators. The dream of a lifetime for many amateur drivers...

Ferrari dominates in terms of numbers
Predicting the winner of the race in the LM GTe Am category at 15h00 on Sunday 19th June is like looking for a needle in a haystack! Russian team SMP Racing won’t be back to defend its title as it is fully occupied in the LM P2 category with its BR01s. So who will take its place? Dempsey Proton Racing, second in 2015, has moved up to LM GTE Pro. Scuderia Corsa, third last year, may take advantage of this with its no. 62 Ferrari 458 Italia. AF Corse will be at the start with two Ferrari 458 Italias (nos 55 and 83), while Formula Racing, victorious in the European Le Mans Series, has also put its trust in the Prancing Horse. The Clearwater Racing team from Singapore will be making its Le Mans debut with another Ferrari 458 Italia and Mok Weng Sun is the first confirmed driver.

Victory contenders galore!
If Ferrari doesn’t win then Porsche could emerge victorious. The German make is represented by the KCMG team (Porsche 911 RSR with Christian Ried at the wheel), Gulf Racing UK and the Abu Dhabi Proton Racing and Proton Competition squad. Thus, there are five Ferraris, three Porsches and three Aston Martin V8 Vantages. Aston Martin Racing is back with two works cars (nos 98 and 99) and the third is entered by Thiriet by TDS Racing with Eric Dermont as the first confirmed driver. The French team earned this entry in LM GTE Am thanks to its victory in the European Le Mans Series in the GTC category. Two Corvettes round off the field: a C7-Z06 for Larbre Competition entered for the FIA World Endurance Championship, and a C6-ZR1 for Taiwan outfit Team AAI present in 2015 with two Porsches. Fourteen cars represent four manufacturers - place your bets!

The LM GTE reserves
All the reserves in the LM GTE category are entered in LM GTE Am. Should one of the entries in LM GTE Pro or LM GTE Am withdraw JMW Motorsport will step in as first reserve. The English team’s weapon is a Ferrari 458 Italia. Second on the reserve list is Riley Motorsports with its SRT Viper GTS-R followed by Proton Competition (Porsche 911 RSR) and Team AAI with its second Corvette C6-ZR1
